GIS (Geographic Information System) Department

Geographic Information System (GIS) captures, stores, analyzes, manages, and presents data that is linked to a specific geographic location. Technically, a GIS is a system which includes mapping software and its application to remote sensing, land surveying, aerial photography, mathematics, photogrammetric and geography. In simplest terms, GIS is the merging of cartography and database technology.  GIS applications are tools that allow users to create interactive queries (user created searches), analyze spatial information, edit data, maps, and present the results of all these operations more securely and efficiently.  GIS is the next biggest step in using geographic information since the invention of the map.  The use of GIS application fields are growing rapidly everyday around the world, providing a useful tool for decision makers.

CINAR's GIS department works in a multi-disciplinary manner by gathering all the spatial and non-spatial data for Environmental Impact Assessments Reports (EIA), Management Plans, Biological Diversity Projects, Emergency Response Plans and Laboratory Studies.  This allows CINAR to have an in-depth view of all components of a project.

The GIS department is an expert in the field of earth sciences using licensed World Leader GIS software.  They work with high resolution satellite images for site selection, land usage, geostatistical risk analysis, geological and hydrogeological analyses, surface analyses-models and 3D simulations.
